"Home of the John Day Fossils Beds"

Best known for it’s outstanding prehistoric sites, it has a multitude of fossils and geologic formations. The John Day Fossil Beds, Clarno, and the Painted Hills are all located in Wheeler County. The topography ranges from sagebrush to juniper and rim rock to thick stands of fir. Wheeler County has a seemingly endless sky and vast stretches of land, with the spectacular rock formations creating an unforgettable setting.
