The largest of Oregon counties, Harney County covers over 10,000 square miles of land. Whether it’s adventure you’re looking for, or peace and quiet, Harney County is the place to be. It’s a rock hounds paradise with obsidian, jasper, agates, and thundereggs, to name a few.

This section of Oregon contains the Malheur Wildlife Refuge, a perfect place for bird-watchers. The refuge offers the opportunity to view thousands of birds and waterfowl, while the Museum and Refuge Headquarters have displays of mounted specimens and a blind for wildlife photography.

The town of Burns, in the northern part of Harney County, is the largest cluster of human souls in the region. Surrounding it are a number of smaller communities, each offering unique opportunities for a lifestyle change from big city living.
