Mental Health
Programs
Outpatient Services
Individual, couple, family and group counseling are
provided for persons seeking help on their own initiative or through referral.
Inpatient Services
For a person in an emotional or mental crisis, inpatient care is available
at Eastern Oregon Psychiatric Center or private hospitals. A residential
program is also available for seniors with long term serious illness.
Emergency Services
For each county, a mental health professional is on call to provide crisis
intervention, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Consultation
and Education
Consultation is available upon request to nursing homes, schools, agencies
and other community service resources. Staff also provide educational
programs aimed at prevention of mental health problems or education about
a specific topic.
Alcohol and Drug Programs
The Center for Living’s treatment philosophy adheres to the
disease model of chemical dependency. Treatment is holistic in nature,
addressing all facets of an individual’s well being. Services are
on an outpatient basis and include the following;
- Information and Referral:
to public, private and self-help resources; prevention and intervention.
- Community Education:
To agencies, schools, employers, clubs, clergy, and families.
Youth Services
- Family oriented alcohol/drug education series
- Assessment and evaluation
- Intensive outpatient treatment and aftercare

- Individualized treatment plans
- Intensive outpatient treatment,

- Family support groups
- Aftercare groups
The
Center for Living also offers:
- DUII diversion programs
- Occupational Drivers License program
- State Certified alcohol/Drug Evaluation
Specialists
Programs For Developmentally
Disabled
The goal of the Developmentally Disabled Program is to assist the
disabled while allowing for as much independence as the client is capable
of obtaining.
Case management
Trained case managers assure that adults and families are provided quality
service from a number of providers and manage the priority list for limited
resources.
Adult Program
Residential Programs include group homes, foster care and a semi-independent
living program, which allows an adult to live on his/her own with assistance.
Sheltered Workshop Employment, or supported employment in the community,
is tailored to the individual’s needs and desires.
Children’s
Needs
A number of agencies are responsible for the needs of children with developmental
disabilities. The Center for Living can provide consultation, information
and referral.

The Mid-Columbia Center
for Living is the designated mental health agency of Hood River,
Sherman, Wasco and Gilliam counties, providing services through
a variety of programs funded by State, local and fee sources.
What is the Cost?
Mental health services are available to all regardless of
ability to pay. Fees are adjusted on the basis of family income,
family size and other factors.
Often insurance policies, Oregon Health Plan and Medicaid, pay form
mental health and alcohol/drug services.
How do referrals take
place?
Any person who feels he/she or any member of his/her family
is in need of services may contact the Center directly.
Referrals may also be made by community agencies or individuals
in other helping professions.
What about confidentiality?
Information is disclosed only
upon the client’s request or consent to those persons designated
by the client.
