G.A.S.P. logo
A collaborative program of the Center for Human Development and Evergreen Vista Health Center.

Since 1991, the Center for Human Development has operated one of a handful of Enhanced Care Facilities, a specialized residential unit treating the most vulnerable and at-risk mental health consumers in Oregon. GASP services are comprehensive and require the close collaboration of a TEAM of committed professionals.

The Team includes…
  • Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse
  • Practitioner
  • Licensed Nursing Staff
  • Specially trained Certified Nurses Aides
  • Mental Health Skills Trainers
  • Occupational Therapist
  • Master’s level Social Workers
  • Social Services Specialists
  • Physician consultation.

For your most difficult cases...
Communities do a remarkable job of keeping persons with very challenging behaviors in their homes.
Occasionally, however, we encounter a consumer with significant and complex issues for whom traditional interventions simply don’t work. Despite our best efforts, these individuals consume large amounts of the community’s resources, frustrate the treatment community, disrupt the milieu in which they live and worst of all, don’t seem to get better. State hospitalization is difficult to access, but staying in the community doesn’t seem possible.

When you are out of options...

Since 1998, GASP services have been available for intensive intervention for consumers and clinicians needing a fresh look at challenging mental health cases.

GASP services offer you and your client…

  • A range of psychiatric, social, and functional interventions from a team of Enhanced Care professionals.
  • A range of activities for your client to assist the team in determining functionality.
  • Constant communication with your treatment team.
  • A practical Behavior Support Plan for you to implement upon the consumer’s return.

What to do?
Eligibility for GASP placement is a collaboration between the consumer, your treatment team and ours. To serve a consumer, we must have in place the following:

  • Financial Responsibility
  • Legal Responsibility
  • Discharge Plan

In addition, for those considered to be appropriate for in-patient services, we will discuss:

  • Nursing Home Admission Status
  • Aggression, Suicidality, etc.
  • Compatibility With Existing Milieu

Getting Started…

Simply give us a call at 541/962-8819 and let us talk with you about your needs and how we may serve you.

Two Ways to Serve you

MOBILE GASP
Through Mobile GASP Services, you will call us and explain the situation, the strategies that have been attempted, and if we agree that an on-site consultation would be appropriate, we will arrive to review the case and develop a Behavior Support Plan for you and your team to implement. The GASP Team will stay in contact by phone and email and continue to fine-tune with you until you have a fully functional and practical treatment plan.

IN-PATIENT GASP
For those in need of more intensive services, or who are not responding in their current living situation, our custom-designed, secure GASP bed is available for up to 30 days. We will provide intensive services, including activities, close monitoring, and an analysis of medication regimes by our nurse practitioner and nursing home staff. Maximum length of stay in the GASP bed is 30 days, and all admissions must meet Senior and Persons with Disabilities nursing home admission criteria, including PASSR screening. A discharge plan must be in place PRIOR to admission.
